The theme of the ISPGAYA International Congress 2026 is ‘Leveraging the regenerative economy’, placing one of the most relevant transformations for the future of competitiveness, sustainability and collective well-being at the centre of the debate. The transition to a regenerative economy represents a paradigm shift from traditional models of development. Instead of seeking only to reduce negative impacts, the regenerative economy proposes to redesign productive, social and institutional systems so that they are capable of restoring, revitalising and strengthening the ecosystems and communities on which they depend. In this context, growth no longer means only quantitative expansion but is associated with the creation of lasting value, improved resilience and the continuous renewal of natural and social resources.

Leveraging the regenerative economy‘ invites us to discuss how organisations, territories and value chains can operationalise this concept, transforming it into concrete and measurable strategies. This involves integrating principles of circularity, biomimicry and social justice, as well as adopting systemic approaches that recognise interdependencies between climate, biodiversity, public health, innovation and competitiveness. Regeneration also requires new performance metrics, capable of capturing not only financial results, but also environmental benefits, collective well-being and the quality of economic relations.

In a context marked by climate instability, pressure on resources and persistent inequalities, the debate on regeneration becomes particularly relevant for business leaders, public decision-makers, academia and civil society. The creation of innovation ecosystems, impact-oriented public policies, financing aligned with long-term goals and purposeful business models are central elements in accelerating this transformation.

This congress aims to bring together multidisciplinary perspectives to explore opportunities, challenges and cases of application, promoting an informed dialogue on how to leverage the regenerative economy as a basis for shared prosperity and real sustainability, with actions capable of producing net positive impacts on the systems in which we operate.
